As I was reading the WORD, I believe the Spirit of the LORD was highlighting to me this important matter: Spiritual growth!
I believe this is important because our LORD GOD wants us to come up higher. Spiritual growth is about crucifying the flesh and walking in the Spirit. The flesh is hostile to GOD but the Spirit is obedient to GOD. The flesh is weak but the spirit is strong. Seeking GOD rather than seeking the things of the world. Setting our minds on the things above and not below.
Why is this important? Well, let me show you what the I believe the Spirit of the LORD showed me.
***Now obviously, test the spirits and place this before the LORD, and may the Holy Spirit lead you into all truth.
Mattew 25:1-13 is the parable of the ten virgins. There were 5 wise virgins and the other 5 were foolish. They were awaiting the coming of the bridegroom. This parable is to represent the coming of Jesus Christ and the virgins are us, Christians, those that are awaiting the bridegroom. Even when some of us are foolish and some are wise.
Now I want you to pay attention to verse 6 of the 25th Chapter, where it says, “At midnight the cry rang out: “Here’s the coming of the bridegroom! Come out to meet him!” And here’s the thing: both the foolish and the wise arose from the sleep and prepared for the bridegroom. But guess who did not have enough oil to go forth and meet the bridegroom? The foolish virgins.
Now I understand that the oil is a representation of the Holy Spirit, so this shows that the foolish virgins did not have the Holy Spirit in them, or at least to the fullness of Him.
We need the Holy Spirit in our lives. He’s the one who prepares us for the coming of the bridegroom. He’s the advocate, the spirit of wisdom, knowledge, understanding, counsel, might, and the fear of the LORD (Isaiah 11:2). He helps us and leads us into all truth. We cannot be who we need to be in Christ Jesus if we do not have Him. We cannot read the bible if we do not have revelation from Him. We cannot walk in boldness or power if we do not have the Holy Spirit.
He’s the one who enables us to heal, drive out demons, and engage in spiritual gifts because He’s the one who gives it to us! We cannot bear the fruit of the Spirit because we need Him!
So the Holy Spirit is truly essential, like REALLY important! You cannot live without Him. If you are a Christian, you should have the Holy Spirit, but if you do not, pray to GOD today to give you the Holy Spirit, who helps you to crucify your flesh and walk in godliness.
“If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him!” Luke 11:13 NIV
This leads to the next point, another bible verse that I believe the Spirit of the LORD led me to read next: Hebrews 5:11-14.
“We have much to say about this, but it is hard to make it clear to you because you no longer try to understand. Though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you the elementary truths of God’s word all over again. You need milk, not solid food! Anyone who lives on milk, being still an infant, is not acquainted with the teaching about righteousness. But solid food is for the mature, who by constant use have trained themselves to distinguish good from evil.”
(taken from bible gateway)
So reading this, the foolish virgins were still being fed spiritual milk, not fully maturing into those who should be as children of GOD. What does the verse 14 say? Those who have eaten solid food have trained themselves to distinguish between good and evil, in which we call them wise virgins.
“Be careful, then, how you live- not as unwise but as wise.” ~ Ephesians 5:15.
But those whose lamps were almost burning out, because of the lack of oil they did not have, did not mature.
Looking at the thesaurus, the opposite of foolish is mature, wise, and responsible.
So what does the LORD want to tell us? For your lamp to keep burning and to ready yourself, you need to mature. You need to be awake. You need transformation by the renewing of your mind by the guidance and teaching of the Holy Spirit to help you spiritually mature.
I urge you to read Hebrews 5:11-14 and ask the Holy Spirit to help and reveal to you about maturity, and spiritual growth. We all need to spiritually mature because we have a calling to accomplish and we have an eternity to attend.
The LORD GOD wants us to grow and the only way to do this is by crucifying the flesh. And no one can do this on their own, but only in the power of GOD. Let GOD help you and let His grace be made perfect in your weakness. Submit to the GOD, resist the devil and he shall flee from you in agony.
So let us live as wise virgins and not as foolish virgins. Let us ready ourselves and awake.
Jesus Christ is coming!
