John 3:16 – The Purpose of Salvation
John 3:16, the WORD says, For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
This bible verse is important for us to know. And yes we already know this verse, but do we know it in depth? Do we know it to the point that our lives is a reflection of these words? As Christians, we will never grow in the word if we do not dwell in it (Joshua 1:8; psalm 1:1-3), and allow the Holy Spirit to reveal to us the Father and the Son so that we know Him better. After all, that is the purpose and summary of our living in the now and eternal: knowing him better.
So to the glory of the LORD, He gave me revelations that you and I need to know, so that, as I mentioned, we know Him better and better. All thanksgiving, honor, and glory to the LORD for these inspired WORD the produce spiritual growth. Amen.
Today I want to talk about the purpose of salvation based on this verse. Before I do I want to break down this verse because this would be broken into three teachings: the purpose of salvation, the work of salvation, and the depth of salvation.
Let’s briefly look at these three in the verse John 3:16:
- ⏩ For the God so loved the world – the purpose of salvation
- that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, – the work of salvation
- But have everlasting life – the depth of salvation
So we’re going to begin with the purpose of salvation. Let’s begin.
So when we talk about the purpose of salvation, we talk about the love of God. If you remember the beginning of Genesis, 1:26, GOD created the man in His image, His likeness. And He gave us, man, to have dominion and authority over the earth. In Psalm 115:16, the word says, that the heavens belong to the LORD, but the earth He has given it to the children of men. This means that we are called to be the caretaker of the earth, just like Adam was in the beginning. God created animals, but it was Adam’s assignment to name them (genesis 2:19-20). This briefly tells us that we were meant to rule over what God given us and steward it according to [his] will, plan, and purpose.
Now, going further, Adam fell and disobeyed God, giving authority and rights to the devil. And for the longest time, man has been under an authority that was not of God, not directly living under the purpose of God. But under God’s great mercy and grace, He made a way for us, man, to receive redemption/freedom/deliverance, to come to the place of authority and dominion, and getting back the authority that we gave to the devil due to disobedience. We were under the authority of sin, which leads to death.
Years later, Jesus Christ came as man, humble and zealous to accomplish the will of the Father. As results, He accomplished the plans of the Father by dying for us, sacrificing His life for us to receive our dominion and authority back. He became a sacrifice that would redeem and free us from the disobedience and corruption of sin in the world that enslaves us, leading us and enabling us to live in freedom, true freedom that is full of light and life only found in GOD who is the GOD full of love.
But why did GOD save us? What did GOD put all this work to get us out of that agreement of disobedience into freedom? GOD did this because of His love.
For God so loved the world.
God so loved us that He decided to free us. A prophet of GOD who I listen to, mentioned that GOD desired a family and so that is why He created us. As He wanted to be the GOD over Israel, He wants to be GOD, our Father, and our Lord over us.
Let’s briefly look at some definition in 1 Corinthians 13: 4-8, that defines the meaning of love. Love does not rejoice in iniquity but rejoices in truth. Love never fails. Love does not think evil. These are brief definitions of love, which is found in GOD.
For GOD so loved the world He wanted to redeem us from the entanglement, the slavery of sin.
So within the purpose of salvation, GOD so loved the world. He prepared a salvation plan for us, before the beginning of time. If you read the book of Exodus, the Ten Commandments were listed, by yes revealing who we were as sinners, but it also revealed what the Lord did not like in us. He did not want us to worship idols. He did not want us to lie, cheat, or steal. For GOD is not like that. So we should not be that as well.
We are called to imitate GOD (Ephesians 5:1), and the word of GOD reveals this to us. The WORD also says that He will give us a heart to know Him (Jeremiah 24:7). Why would GOD give us a heart to know Him? Because He loves us and He wants us to get to know Him. He loves us so much that He prepared a plan, a purpose of salvation. A plan that would get us back to where we were before, with Him in [His] image and likeness. Where we could know Him forever.
In the next Post/episode, we’re going to discuss the work of salvation, and why Jesus Christ was the work of the salvation. Until next time, have a good day and have a good night. Glory to the Lord.
