“But he said unto them, I have meat to eat that ye know not of. Therefore said the disciples one to another, Hath any man brought him ought to eat? Jesus saith unto them, My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work.” John 4:32-34 KJV

We are called to eat the Spiritual food of the LORD. Meaning we are called to “nourish” ourselves with the thing of the LORD, by the Spirit.

After the LORD Jesus met the woman at the well and His disciples came back from town, gathering food, the disciples asked about the food that  he received, because the LORD mentioned, “I have a kind of food you know nothing about” (John 4:32 NLT). Then He clarified, “My nourishment comes from doing the will of GOD, who sent me, and finishing His work” (v. 34 NLT).

The LORD is calling us to eat His spiritual food on a daily basis. The food that spiritually nourishes, coming from doing the will of GOD.

The spiritual food is to do the will of God, guided by His spirit.

There is a difference between natural and spiritual food. Though the two promotes nourishment for us, what they nourish are distinct.

The natural food is to nourish our physical bodies. The food of the Spirit brings forth life and peace. You need to eat the spiritual food of God daily, just as we eat natural food to nourish our bodies.

Here is how physical food provides nutrients/nourishment for our bodies, according to Google:

  1. Provides nutrients: support immune system.
  2. Supplies energy: Energy is needed for movement, growth, and maintaining body temperature
  3. Supports growth and repair: delivering oxygen throughout the body
  4. Boosts immunity: support immune cell function.
  5. Regulates bodily system: maintain digestive health and regulates blood sugar levels
  6. Improves mental health : support brain function and mood regulation.
  7. Reduces risks of chronic disease: A balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean protein reduces the risk of heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes, and some cancers.

Here is how the food that comes from the Spirit support and gives us spiritual nutrients:

  1. “For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his. And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness. But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you. For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.” Romans 8:6, 9-11, 13 KJV
  2. “Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God.” Romans 8:26-27 KJV
  3. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. Let us not be desirous of vain glory, provoking one another, envying one another.” Galatians 5:22-23, 25-26 KJV

These are things that the food of the Spirit does in us. But know this, if you don’t eat, you won’t be able to function well in your environment. You might feel tired, you might not think well, or your stomach might rumble. Overall, the natural food helps us to function well in our environment so that we get the job done.

This is the same way with the Spiritual food. The food of the Spirit nourishes us so that we are sent forth to do the will of the one who called us as His own.

The things of the Spirit is the ACTS.

So when we eat the spiritual food, then we ought to go forth and be the church. If you’ve read about the ACTS church, the disciples, the apostles, went to evangelize, preach the GOOD NEWS, encourage each other, and fellowship with one another.

Glory to the LORD.
