I was reading the book of Ephesians, chapter 6, concerning the Armor of GOD the other day and I have gotten a revelation that I wanted to share with you. I think it’s definitely important to see the armor of GOD this way because I believe that this was no accident.

Let’s look at the verse, in which the WORD says:

Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. Ephesians 6:13-17 NIV

Reading this, you see that the armor of GOD begins with the belt of truth. Why did it not start with the helmet of salvation? Why didn’t it begin with the breastplate of righteousness? There’s a reason for that.

You begin with the belt of truth because as a Christian, before even you were saved, you were given the truth. How you received the truth was by hearing the truth. Faith comes by hearing, and hearing the WORD of GOD (Romans 10:17). So when you hear, faith comes. So it begins with you hearing, and when you hear by the truth being spoken and you receive it by faith. Therefore, truth is the first thing that sets the foundation for you to be saved and walking as the son of GOD in Christ Jesus, confessing and believing according to Romans 10:9.

The next thing is the breastplate of righteousness. Righteousness means being right standing with GOD. When you receive the truth, and receive it by faith, and follow Romans 10:9, you become right standing with GOD. This is the same thing with you listening to a sermon or when you spending time in the WORD. When we spend time with the LORD, we are feeding ourselves with the truth as we read His WORD. And when we are fed with the truth, we receive it with faith, and therefore, being right standing with GOD. Remember, ye shall know the truth, and the truth will set you free. Jesus Christ is the WORD, the truth. And every time you are fed with the truth, you are being sanctified, by the Holy Spirit, as you are made right with GOD, acceptable to Father.

Now, because you start with receiving the truth, who is also Jesus Christ, then you go forward with shoes of peace. This is what the WORD says in Isaiah 52:7,

How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of those who bring good news, who proclaim peace, who bring good tidings, who proclaim salvation, who say to Zion, “Your God reigns!” Isaiah 52:7

The shoes of the gospel of peace is when you walk in the truth of His WORD, which sanctifies you through and through, as well as it gives you peace because you are right standing with GOD. Like Abraham believed GOD, he was credited righteousness. So your walk as a child of GOD is girded, or firm in the TRUTH, which means you are right standing with GOD, meaning that you believe with all your heart that Jesus Christ is the only way to the Father (John 14:6). And because of this, your walk life with GOD through Christ Jesus is at peace. The Gospel gives us peace (John 3:16).

The next thing that happens is the shield of Faith. The WORD says that the shield of faith can extinguish the flaming arrow of the evil one. So, again, when you begin with the truth and you remain in the truth, you now have the faith and are walking in peace. And now you have to maintain the faith because the enemy prowls like a lion trying to devour. Let us to be sober and alert of the wiles of the enemy by standing firm in faith, knowing who we are in the Father through Christ Jesus.

The armor of the LORD is not just a casual attire, it is the divine armor that is mighty through GOD that sustains us in defense of whatever the enemy throws at us. When you feed yourself with the truth, everything else follows when you wear your armor.

The next thing is the helmet of salvation. In 2 Corinthians 10:4, the weapons of our warfare are not of this world but they are mighty through GOD to pulling down strongholds. Remember it all begins with the truth and you being girded, holding on to truth in faith. And like I said, the enemy is always prowling, especially in the mind. He attacks us mostly in the mind, trying to feed us lies. But because you are girded with the truth, you won’t be moved. Which is why we need to keep feeding ourselves with the truth, the WORD (Joshua 1:8). Being fed with the truth on a constant basis strengthens you and purifies you because you are not led by the lie nor your own understanding, but in the truth which is found in Christ.

In the book of Luke, the LORD talks about a house built on the rock. You can also say the house built on TRUTH. When the waves violently arise, the house is not moved but it is still standing, compared to the house that is built on sand. So when you wear the helmet of salvation, you could say your mind is renewed as well because of the truth you keep receiving from the WORD. In Romans 12:2, my go to verse, says,

Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.

So we begin with the belt truth which is pertinent because it is the foundation to the path of transformation as Children of GOD in Christ. And the Holy Spirit helps us in all of these things. But we must take the first step to desire the things of GOD. The helmet of salvation is the where we realize who we are in Christ, our identity, and are constantly being renewed everyday in the WORD.

So you see the WORD is our life. And we must always feed on it, with the the help of the Holy Spirit who reveals the truth of the WORD so that we spiritually mature.

Lastly, the sword of the Spirit, which is the WORD of GOD. That is the only offense things we use against the wiles of the enemy. The LORD was tempted in Matthew 4 by the enemy, and the LORD used the WORD to come against the enemy’s scheme. So sharpen your sword by feeding on the WORD, where we are no longer fed milk but meat. The LORD is calling us higher, therefore we cannot continuously being fed with milk.

Anyone who lives on milk, being still an infant, is not acquainted with the teaching about righteousness. But solid food is for the mature, who by constant use have trained themselves to distinguish good from evil. Hebrews 5:13-14

So that is what I wanted to share with you  today. Place this in your prayer for the church as well. The LORD is calling us to move forward and advance, and we need the armor of GOD to keep us going, not straying to the left nor right but moving forward in straight formation.

To GOD be the Glory.
