I was studying the word today, Proverbs 8, and there was something that stood out to me. I wanted to share this with you because the LORD also wanted me to share this with you.
So when I was reading Proverbs 8, the summary of this chapter talks about wisdom. Then the word wisdom stood out to me. So I looked at James 3:17, in which the WORD says,
‘But the wisdom from above is first pure [morally and spiritually undefiled], then peace-loving [courteous, considerate], gentle, reasonable [and willing to listen], full of compassion and good fruits. It is unwavering, without [self-righteous] hypocrisy [and self-serving guile].’
So this is the definition of wisdom. Then I went to Proverbs 1:7, but I wanted to specifically focus on Proverbs 9:10, in which the WORD says,
The [reverent] fear of the Lord [that is, worshiping Him and regarding Him as truly awesome] is the beginning and the preeminent part of wisdom [its starting point and its essence], And the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding and spiritual insight.
So let’s think about this: The fear of the LORD is beginning of wisdom. So let’s look deeper into what the fear of the LORD means. Let’s look at the definition of fear. What is fear according to the WORD, according to this verse? Fear, looking through the Blue Book App means reverence, respect, and piety. Let’s look at the definition of each of these terms.
- Respect – esteem, high respect, consider worthy of high regard.
- Reverence – to offer honor or respect, worship, and venerate
- Piety – Allegiance, commitment, devotion, faith
So looking at each of these definition, we can say the respect of the LORD, respecting the LORD is the beginning of wisdom. We can also say that the worship of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom. You can also say that the devotion of the LORD or to the LORD is the beginning of the wisdom.
Let’s look at the word wisdom. Wisdom, according to the WORD, which is mentioned above is pure, peace, gentle, reasonable, compassionate, unwavering, and without self-hypocrisy, which I mentioned above, James 3:17.
So let’s place this in a sentence again. So we can say that the respect of the LORD or to the LORD is the beginning of purity or peace-loving. Another one is the worship of the LORD is the beginning unwavering or considerate.
What does this all mean?
When the WORD talks about the fear of the LORD, the WORD is revealing that we are to worship, respect, have faith in the LORD. When it says the beginning of wisdom, it is revealing that it is the beginning of being unwavering, being gentle, being without self-hypocrisy.
So when we worship the LORD, when we have faith in the LORD, there is purity, there is unwavering, there is gentleness.
One thing I would like to mention because of what was explained in this post. The LORD told me that the fear of mean leads to destruction. What is the definition of destruction? It means loss, wastage, downfall. When you fear man, you are going in the wrong way, you are at loss, you are in downfall.
“The fear of man bringeth a snare: but he whoso putteth his trust in the LORD shall be safe.” Proverbs 29:25 KJV
However, when you walk in the fear of the LORD, that is the beginning of walking in wisdom.
When you walk in the faith of the LORD, that is the beginning of unwavering. Like unwavering faith.
What is the definition of unwavering? It means without dubiousness, ambiguity, and uncertainty.
So that means that the worship of the LORD is the beginning of unwavering, meaning not going to the left nor to the right but straight ahead. It means without doubting.
So what does this all mean?
This means that leaning on the LORD, believing and trusting in the LORD means that you live without doubt, you will live in peace, you will live in purity, you will live in gentleness.
So the fear of the LORD is not a bad thing but it is a place of where you can trust in the LORD. It is where you can be sheltered from doubt. So positioning yourself in the fear of the LORD, mentioned in Proverbs 9:10 will lead you to godly wisdom, which, as mentioned in James 3:17, highlights and emphasizes what it means to live for GOD, for the LORD.
