When there is a spirit of prostitution, people’s heart are taken away from GOD. Their hearts are geared toward doing something that will help them live in a way they believe will help them be alright. It can, for a little while…

What is the definition of prostitution? It is basically selling yourself for means of money, or basically surviving. Now this may not be an appropriate word to talk about. But if we would gear our minds toward the word prostitution and not the person that commits prostitution. This in turn won’t get us into our feelings. At the end of the day, we need to pray for them. We need to ask the LORD to help them escape from that position. Whether He’s going to use us or someone else, let us intercede for them. So they come to the knowledge of GOD through Jesus Christ.

Now, let’s get to the spirit of prostitution. As I mentioned, prostitution is selling yourself for means to survive. The LORD mentions that the spirit of  prostitution came upon the Israelite who were selling themselves to idols and false gods to gain a lifestyle; maybe it was to be rich, could be just to survive. But their way of living was wrong. They sought after false gods to gain things to live, breathe, and have their beings. But we all, brothers and sisters in Christ, should know it is only GOD who gives us the air we breathe. We have a mind because of Him. We see with our eyes and hear with our ears because of Him.

“My people consult wooden idol, and a diviner’s rod speaks to them. A spirit of prostitution leads them astray; they are unfaithful to their GOD.” Hosea 4:12 NIV

The spirit of prostitution occurs all around the world in various ways that we should pay attention to. For example, celebrities sell their soul to become rich, wealthy, but not knowing that being wealthy, being recognized is fleeting and temporary. Where will you go after all this ends? Another one could be even what we may have done in the past in school, cheat on our tests. We desire to pass our class, so we look over someone’s paper to pass the test.

But in the end, you did not learn anything, and this type of behavior may lead you to desire things without learning and doing what you’re supposed to do. Instead, you want it now and will grab that thing no matter the cost, if you think that is important to you. The last example, is a bit different but it means the same thing.

When I was younger, let’s say I had my heart broken, I would listen to music, love songs that were about broken hearts, etc. But later on, I would always go to music if I felt a certain way, whether good or bad. Now, this is not saying that music is bad, not at all. But when we are in need of healing, mending, particularly from the heart, we need to come to the Father to mend our hearts. Music come and music go, but the Father’s love and care does not change.

There’s a particular verse that gets to me all the time, which is in Hosea 7:14, which says, “They do not cry out to me from their hearts but wail on their beds. They slash themselves, appearing to their gods for grain and new wine, but they turn away from me.”

This example, is basically similar to what I just talked about regarding music. I leaned my heart on music and trusted in it to make me feel better. This could be the same with drinking, drugs, pornography, anything that leads your heart astray from GOD.

The WORD says we ought to love the LORD GOD with all of our hearts, mind, soul and strength. We need to rend our hearts to the LORD and start trusting in Him more and more. By having faith in Jesus Christ, the author and finisher our faith, we are able to worship GOD in Spirit and in truth but the help and power of the Holy Spirit.

I believe the LORD wants to care for your heart, more than the other captivating ideas you’ve placed in your heart.

There’s a story I read in a book, which explains the things we set in our hearts. The story talked about a man whose wife died while giving birth. The man became angry with GOD, asking Him why he took his wife and baby away from him (now I don’t remember whether it was the wife and baby or just the wife, but either way, these individuals were important to him). One day God gave the man a dream, GOD and the Jesus was in the dream. To shorten it, GOD, Jesus and the man, went to three household: a rich man, a poor man, and a woman with her daughter. From house to house, GOD and Jesus disguised themselves as a beggars. They knocked at the door of the rich man, asking for a place to sleep. The rich man did not want to let them in but he eventually let them, letting them sleep in the basement of his house. The next day, GOD, disguised as the beggar, gave the rich man more money, in which the man gladly received. The first man, his heart was set on his riches.

The second house was a poor man. God asked the same question, asking for a place to sleep, and the poor man let him in the house, which looked broken from the inside, and the poor man let Him sleep on is own bed. The next day, GOD burned the house of the poor man. GOD explained at the end of the dream, that this man lived a poverty mindset. GOD burned the house because the poor man’s father left a treasures that could help the son get on back on his feet and break free from the poverty mindset and renew his mind.

The third and last house, similar question I believe, but this situation was different, which could lead you to question GOD. But let us understand, though I don’t think we can grasp the sense of this, GOD explained the reason which I would mention in the next few sentences. The mother, who truly loved her daughter from the heart, let the daughter go with GOD, Jesus, and the man to a river (If I can remember, GOD, still disguised as a beggar, was asking the way to a location, in which the daughter knew). Now, as they got to the river, GOD pushed the daughter in the water. The man, like I, would think that this was demonic. However, the act was not demonic because the LORD told the man this: the mother who loved her daughter very much from the heart, made her daughter an idol. GOD wanted to do more through the mother but her love for the daughter was in the way. More so, GOD was going to birth doctors, and important people through the mother. But if the daughter did not die, the mother would not have been walking in GOD’s plan to birth his servants to go into all the world and expand His kingdom.

The moral of this story, from what I have writing about is do not let idolatry consume your heart. Idolatry could be many things but you are allowing your heart to be stolen away by an idol rather than be in awe of GOD and His love for you.

I am encouraging you to gear your heart to the LORD when you are encountering life issues and situations. Sometimes, in all honesty, you may feel that He is not there nor is HE listening. And trust me, I have been there, more than twice, or thrice. But one thing you can do is pour your heart to GOD, and ask Him to comfort and strengthen you in the way that pleases Him, so that your heart is right with GOD and you are faithful to Him knowing that He will take care of you. He himself may lead you to a song or a person that He would use to help through your situation. But remember that we are all GOD’s vessel, we’re used for His glory, so let us not depend on man or tools but in GOD who definitely knows best. The WORD says, In Psalm 55:22 NIV, “Cast your cares to the LORD and He will sustain you; He will never let the righteous be shaken.”

Do not let the spirit of prostitution gear your heart toward man or things. Reject and renounce this spirit and rededicate your heart to Jesus Christ and ask Him as I have  written in the earlier paragraph…Pour your heart to GOD, and ask Him to comfort and strengthen you in the way that pleases Him, so that your heart is right with GOD and you are faithful to Him knowing that He will take care of you.

Love you with the Love of GOD, whose love is high, deep, long, and wide.
