The Greatness of GOD is who He is.

For the Lord is the great God, the great King above all gods. In his hand are the depths of the earth, and the mountain peaks belong to him. The sea is his, for he made it, and his hands formed the dry land. Psalm 95:3-5

The LORD is sovereign. He hailed fire and brimstone to Sodom and Gomorrah. He is the one who showed signs and wonders with the 10 plagues in Egypt. He is the one who parted the Red Sea in Moses’s time. He used the five smooth stones from David’s bag and killed Goliath. He went before King Jehoshaphat and defeated the enemy without the king or his army touching them! And they took the enemy’s plunder!

He’s multiplied food with only five fish and two loaves of bread. He’s the creator of the heaven and earth. He’s the air that you breathe daily. So isn’t that something to acknowledge daily? Just knowing that GOD is great in ALL things?

God is the GOD who should be acknowledged as alive and active more than any idol. He will not give His glory to another because He’s the only great GOD. He’s the One who is victorious and will NEVER cease to exist.

Do you consider GOD in His greatness? If you do, is it in humility? Is it believing in His truth without doubting? Is it knowing that He made you whole? If you do, do you walk in truth, righteousness, and holiness before Him behind and outside closed doors?

The greatness of God is about knowing who He is in your life and who He is in all things. The greatness of God is what God can do. God is sovereign, and He does what pleases Him. God is merciful and faithful in all He does, so much so that He even sent His only Son on earth to die for you and me. The greatness of God reveals who He is in His justice and righteousness.

As David said in Psalm 51, “Against you, you only, have I sinned and done what is evil in your sight; so you are right in your verdict and justified when you judge.” Psalms 51:4 NIV

God is just in His judgment, and it’s good to know that. Because it lets you know what is right and what is wrong. The LORD mentioned this in His WORD in Micah 6:8 (NIV), “He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.”

In the NLT version, the WORD says, No, O people, the Lord has told you what is good, and this is what he requires of you: to do what is right, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.

“In the greatness of your majesty, you threw down those who opposed you. You unleashed your burning anger; it consumed them like stubble.” Exodus 15:7 NIV

So the greatness of GOD is so much more than we think. Therefore, when we acknowledge the greatness of GOD, we become aware of Him, walking in the fear of the LORD. Knowing that He can take bodies and souls into hell. It is also wanting to walk in His truth, righteousness, and holiness. If you are in the knowledge of GOD, you are walking in the knowledge of Him, knowing Him more and more.

Consider reading Psalm 104, or any chapters in the book of Psalms, you will see the Psalmist ponder and consider the works of the LORD, from creation to the crushing of the enemies!

Here are some examples from Psalm 104:

  • 104v6 You clothed the earth with floods of water, water that covered even the mountains.
  • 104v7-8 At your command, the water fled; at the sound of your thunder, it hurried away. Mountains rose and valleys sank to the levels you decreed.
  • 104v14 You cause grass to grow for the livestock and plants for people to use. You allow them to produce food from the earth—

Overall, to know and understand the greatness of GOD is by reading His WORD consistently. Day and night, considering who He is as GOD, and particularly who He is in your life.

Psalm 1:1-3 NLT Oh, the joys of those who do not follow the advice of the wicked, or stand around with sinners, or join in with mockers. But they delight in the law of the Lord, meditating on it day and night. They are like trees planted along the riverbank, bearing fruit each season. Their leaves never wither, and they prosper in all they do.
