A while ago, I was reading Matthew 8, and I noticed some things I wanted to share with you and hope to encourage you.
***I would encourage you to read Matthew 8 as well, specifically this section of the story, so you may be encouraged as well. Ask for the Holy Spirit to guide you, leading you into truth.
I wanted to write about the event regarding the Centurion.
We start with the centurion and he goes to ask Jesus for help concerning his servant being sick. Jesus asked the centurion if he wanted Jesus to go with him. But Centurion refused. Instead, he told Jesus, in summary, that all He had to do was say the word and the centurion would believe that his servant would be made well.
How did Jesus respond to that? He said, in the NIV, “Truly I tell you, I have not found anyone in Israel with such great faith.” (Matthew 8:10)
How did the centurion have such a great faith? By believing in the Word of the LORD. All the centurion wanted was for Jesus to say the Word and the centurion’s servant would be healed. “…But just say the word, and my servant will be healed.”(v.8b) And Jesus replied, “Then Jesus said to the centurion, ‘Go! Let it be done just as you believed it would.’ And his servant was healed at that moment.”(v.13)
One thing I wrote in this passage is that the Centurion had to activate his faith to receive the WORD. He had to believe and then when the word came, what he asked for would be already done.
In Hebrews 11:1, it says, that faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
The faith the centurion had in Jesus, made it more foundational for the centurion to believe in the request he was making before Jesus, for his servant to be healed.
The thing is as well, the centurion lived out Hebrews 11:1, because though he refused for Jesus to come to his household, he believed that his servant would be healed without Jesus being present, hence, the evidence of the things not seen.
And here’s the thing: the centurion related the faith Word of Jesus to his position as a leader. When he tells his servants or soldiers to do this and that, they listen and go do it. And I believe that is the kind of faith that Jesus was surprised to see, that if you ask something from the LORD and when you believe that it is done, you now know you have it because GOD called it done. You have received it!
So friend, are you believing GOD for something, that though you do not see it, like the Centurion’s unwavering faith, all you need is these words for you to go forth and receive what you asked the LORD: ‘Go! Let it be done just as you believed it would.’?
I wrote a similar blog post called living the great Faith. Our Father, GOD, is the great GOD of faith because everything He says comes from the past. Let’s walk into that same faith as well, in His will, plan, and purpose!
I encourage you to believe and know that He has done it already. Seek His kingdom and watch what you’ve asked for be given to you.
