What is an altar?
An Altar is a proclamation of your faith unto the LORD. Meaning, that you will serve Him and acknowledge He is GOD, the GOD of the heavens and earth.
We see examples of altars being built to the LORD by Abram, who later became Abraham, in Genesis 12:7-8. Other examples are seen in Judges 6:25-26, where the LORD GOD told Gideon to tear down his father’s idol and replace it with the altar of the LORD. This was to reclaim GOD’s place in Gideon and His father’s household.
Another example is found with Elijah in 1st King 18:30, where Elijah had to repair the altar of the LORD, proclaiming that the LORD is GOD against the prophets of Baal.
Did you know that we ourselves can be an altar to the LORD? Being a living sacrifice, giving our all to HIM, as Joshua said, “Me and my house will serve the LORD.” Are you giving yourselves as an altar to the LORD? Are you proclaiming to have faith in the LORD, giving your all to Him?
Now we do not have to literally build an altar to the LORD but we can give ourselves to Him, as a living sacrifice, being used by Him to fulfill His purpose.
Like Gideon, he set up an altar in his household. Is your household an altar to the LORD?
Like Abraham, wherever you go, are you building an altar to the LORD, where you are proclaiming your faith in that place?
When you give yourself to the LORD, you give your everything, even your finances, your job, schooling, your business, and everything else. We give these to Him so that we can use them for His plans, will, and purpose. Everything belongs to Him, so we need to steward these things for His purpose.
“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.” – Romans 12:2 NIV.
So, what is your altar to? To GOD or something/someone else? Remember that when you serve the LORD, you are making and building an altar to Him, proclaiming that He is GOD over you and everything you own and do, though all things come from Him.
It is like our LORD Jesus Christ He is our LORD and Savior, no one else is but Him! He is the LORD, all things had been made through Him.
“For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him.” Colossians 1:16 NIV
