This may be a short post, but I think this is a reminder for all of us that I want to put out, for Christians who may question their identity, wanting to know who they are in a sense of why they were born and similar thoughts to this. I was listening to a podcast one day and the topic was on identity.
Now the LORD has been letting me know about reputation. Now, as Christians, we should not seek a reputation of any sort because that would only lead to pleasing ourselves or even pleasing people, which leads to pride and idolatry.
Our identity is ONLY rooted in GOD through Jesus Christ our LORD.
The LORD said in the first and second commandments in Exodus 20:3, that we should have no other gods before HIM.
I was in a place, long ago, when I also questioned who I was, concerning the next step in my career, or even who I was as an individual. But I looked for it in the wrong places. From taking quizzes and even horoscopes (which are demonic in every way and should even enter the minds or lives of Christians. And I thank GOD that He renewed my mind about this a long ago), those were not the way to go.
When I finally understood that my identity is only found in GOD through Christ Jesus, that was the only thing I needed to live my life. Only through GOD lies who you are. First and foremost, you are His child, His Son/Daughter. Everything else follows as you seek His face.
“For I know the plans I have for you, ” declares the LORD. “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11 NIV
There are people out there searching for who they are and sometimes it may lead them to be confused, and even become something that they’re not. But the truth is, our identity is found in GOD, the HOLY GOD, who called Israel unto Himself and has called us unto Himself.
Our eyes, our hearts, should be focused on HIM and when we focus on HIM, we will know who we are. We each have callings, giftings, and purposes, but only GOD has all the answers to these things and will lead to accomplishing these things. So we need to focus on HIM, not ourselves. We need to stop seeking to search for who we are when all this search ends with GOD.
“The WORD of the LORD came to me, saying, “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.” Jeremiah 1:5 NIV
There is a song that I want to place below that explains this well and it’s a great worship song!
” I took you from the ends of the earth, from its farthest corners I called you. I said, ‘You are my servant’: I have chosen you and have not rejected you. ” Isaiah 41:9 NIV
