One day, I was reminded of Luke 12:35, which says that we need to keep our lamp burning, always preparing ourselves for the coming of Jesus Christ. As Christians, it is pertinent that we are always awake and sober because the enemy prowls like a lion, seeking whom he may devour.
But this should not be so for us, children of GOD. We should always be before GOD and walk in the Spirit so that whatever the enemy throws at us, we are aware of it and speak the WORD, the SWORD of the SPIRIT.
But how do we do so?
Well, we need to prepare ourselves for the coming of the LORD. We need to awaken our spirit so that we are guided by the Spirit and not our flesh. With our flesh, we are asleep, but with our Spirit, we are awake.
Now, I do encourage you that you pray and submit this before the LORD, because HE is the only one who leads us into all truth. He knows what we need even before we ask HIM. So do not take this post and just read it but go to the FATHER, who is the only teacher, provider, LORD, and Master who leads you into all truth. And may you not just be hearer of the WORD but doers of the WORD as well. All for the glory of the LORD GOD.
So the one way to help us keep our lamp burning is found in these verses: 1 Thessalonians 5:17, Matthew 26:41, Jude 1:20, Luke 18:1, Jeremiah 7:11, Isaiah 56:7, and Luke 19:46.
I am not going to into details for all of these verses, but this is for your own devotional and study.
All of these bible verses have one thing in common, or they have a common word: prayer. The word is prayer. GOD wants us to be a house of prayer. GOD wants us to pray without ceasing. GOD wants us to build up our most holy faith by praying in the Spirit.
Prayer is powerful, especially if it comes from a person who is right standing before GOD, who is righteous.
The prayers of the righteous availeth much.
When you pray, things change your environment, you change, and even the nations as you intercede for your community, the state, and the nations of the world.
The people of GOD in the bible always prayed to the LORD because that is the one way we communicate with GOD. Jesus Christ always prayed to GOD, if you read John 17. Daniel prayed to GOD in repentance. Nehemiah prayed to GOD.
Therefore we all shall pray to GOD because that is the one way, the only way we see a change in our lives. Prayer is spending time with GOD. This is where, as I mentioned we intercede, but we also pour our heart to HIM.
Prayer brings us closer to GOD.
If you have read the story of the 10 virgins (Matthew 25), 5 of them wise and five of them foolish, who was the one that was left behind, while the other five attended the ceremony of the bridegroom? The five foolish virgins. Why? Because their lamp almost burned out because they did not have enough oil to keep their lamp burning.
You need the oil to keep your lamp burning. The oil is the Holy Spirit. Only the Holy Spirit can keep your lamp burning. He is the one that prepares you for the coming of the LORD.
When you pray to the LORD, the HOLY SPIRIT anoints you, and fills you with oil in your jar to keep going. To keep running the race.
So understand this brothers and sisters in Christ, prayer is the strongest and powerful thing you can have as a Christian, with faith fueling it.
One last thing that I do want to say is to continue to pray when you feel weak. Continue to pray so that you do not give in to temptation. Give thanksgiving unto GOD when you are weak so that HE makes you strong. Only He can strengthen you! Pour out your heart to GOD so that HE comforts you and gives you peace. HE is everything you need and has given you everything you need to live a godly life.
We are more than conquerors and are overcomers!
