For the past few days, I believe I was led to read the book of Judges, amongst other Bible stories, that highlighted something vital to me: The disobedience of the Israelites led to curses and oppression.
I suggest or urge you to read the book of Judges and see how, because of their idolatry, GOD gave them to their enemies. But when the Israelites repented of their sins, forsook their idols, and sought the LORD’s face, GOD provided the judges, servants of the LORD who would defeat the Israelite’s enemies from oppression.
There’s a specific story in the book of Judges that I believe the Holy Spirit highlighted to me: Gideon in Judges 6. If you read Judges 6, it begins with the Israelites doing evil in the eyes of the LORD (Judges 6:1). Because of this, GOD gave them to their enemies, the Midianites. The Midianites oppressed them so much that the people had to create hideouts in the caves and another stronghold, like hideouts, I would believe. This is because the Medianites impoverished them. So the people of the LORD cried out to GOD, and He sent His answer through a prophet who told them they should not have disobeyed the LORD; now this is their consequence.
But how merciful is our GOD who commissions a judge from the tribe of Israel to save His people? Now, if you read further, we go to Gideon’s story. In addition, you hear the conversation between Gideon, the LORD, and the angel of the LORD.
One thing that caught my attention was how the angel of the LORD called Gideon a Mighty Warrior. But Gideon did not see himself like that. Do you ever think of yourself negatively, such as not being enough, not being loved, not competent, or poor, or something along those lines?
Let me tell you that is not how GOD wants you to see you. Abba does not see you that way. As you can read and observe, the LORD GOD did not see Gideon as weak and the least in the family. He called himself a mighty warrior., the warrior judge who would defeat the Midianites for Israel.
You are not what people say, and you are not considered the least as your ancestors went through
This is to also say that we let ourselves be oppressed by what people say about us and what may have been passed from generation to generation. This is the point that I also want to make because it goes with what I am writing about.
Just because this happened to your mother, father, and family members of the past, that does not mean that it should happen to you.
I am talking about cancer, anger, depression, drugs, being drunk, stealing, lying, cheating, insecurity, being involved in pornography, seeing yourself as the least or unworthy, and other things. If you’ve ever been to the office, the doctor or nurse always asks if you have a history of this and that. That’s basically saying if you have any generational illness, mental or sickness that was passed on from your great-grandparents to you.
