I wanted to talk about jealousy, which I thought about today. This is something that I also read based on the book I am currently reading,…
I recommend you to read it.
As an African, I was unaware of these practices, as I am now. Though they occur around the world in different ways, it is all the same: idolatry and worshipping of demons.
One thing is clear: GOD alone should be worshipped and honored. He is above ALL, through ALL, in ALL, and above ALL.
The reason why I thought jealousy was because this is something that occurred in one or more instances of our lives. But that should not be so.
Why do we get jealous? Why do we covet?
What is jealousy? According to the Merriam-Webster Vocabulary,it is hostile toward a rival.
According to the Cambridge Dictionary: A feeling of unhappiness and anger because someone has something or someone that you want
Here are some synonyms for covetousness:
envy, resentment, desire, discontent, and spite.
So, jealousy is definitely a bad thing, put plainly.
If you’ve read the story of David and Bathsheba, David desired Bathsheba, in 2 Samuel 11 & 12, even though she belonged to someone else. And he killed just to get what he wanted. That’s a form of jealousy, mercy, and desire.
What do you desire today? A new job, a new house, a new position in your career, a husband, or a wife? Whatever your heart’s desire is, do not look to others for it. Do not even set your eyes on others for it because it will be a snare to you and cause you to sin.
This reminds me of a verse I read in Judges 2:3: “So I also said, “I will not drive out your enemies out before you, but they will be like thorns in your sides, and their gods will be a snare to you.”
This is also in Deuteronomy 7:16: “You must destroy all the peoples the LOD your GOD gives over toy ou. Do not look on them with pity and do not serve their gods, for they will be a snare to you.”
This is saying that if you get jealous of someone or something. You’ve sat with it, it will be a snare to you, causing you to sin by being angry, seeking negative words towards others and yourself, stealing, killing, and even going to the witch doctor to whatever crazy things to make someone else pay for something they wish they had.
That’s not the way to go at all. It’s just not.
We need to seek GOD’s forgiveness by confessing, repenting, and pleading for the blood of Jesus Christ to wash us from this.
First and foremost, be content with what you have. If we look at the story of David, before he had Bathsheba, he had two wives before he officially became king. TWO wives!
What interested me was what GOD said after David acted on the sin. What was interesting was the LORD waited for a bit before He sent Nathan, the prophet, to speak the Word. I believe he was waiting for David to repent, but he did not. So this was the Word GOD spoke through Prophet Nathan.
“I gave you your master’s house to you, and your master’s wives into your arms. I gave you all Israel and Judah. And if all this had been too little, I would have given you even more.” 2 Samuel 12:8
God is such a good GOD that he would have given David more if he only asked. But one thing we need to know here is that David was ungrateful. Because he sought something that was not his.
The Bible says to be thankful in all circumstances (1 Thess. 5:18); I believe when things get tough and good. David had it good, but maybe it wasn’t enough for him. However, think about this: at the moment, he sought something that became his affection negatively.
Whatever he was going to do, as he set his affection on Bathsheba, he would do whatever to have her. Isn’t that crazy, though? Jealousy makes you think about what you do not have.
So what if you do not have what they have? Is it really what you want?
And if you think you desire, need, or want something, you need to go to GOD. As the LORD GOD told David, he would have given him anything.
His Word says, “Take delight in the LORD, and He will give you the desire of your heart.” (Psalm 37:4).
David wrote this!
So he knew that if he wanted something in his life, he needed to delight in GOD first. Put GOD first above all so that when he placed his request before GOD, he would receive it.
So, if you are operating in jealousy, know that it is a spirit, an evil spirit. It is leading you to hate yourself and others. But we have a good GOD who we can cast our cares to Him because he cares for us. He truly desires us to be happy, but we need to be satisfied in Him so that what we ask for does not become a snare to us, where we idolize it more than worshipping GOD.
So again, confess your sins of jealousy, whether it is our feelings about someone or something, and let the blood of jesus Christ cleanse your from all unrighteousness. And I would encoruage you to go further, pray for the person. Bles the person, and even intercede for them if they are walking in a way that is not of GOD.
Even further, ask GOD to fill you with his perfected and completed love, so that this very love of GOD, of Jesus Christ, will be shown toward others.
So tend to your heart because where your treasure is, your heart will be there also (Mathew 6:21).
Until Next Time.
