Who are you listening to? Genesis 3:4-7
Hello All!
I have another mini teaching about which voice you are listening to.
I recently spoke about what seed is cultivating your mind, based on Genesis 3:4-5! This is where the snake, the devil, planted a thought seed into Eve’s mind, leading her to disobey God by occupying it. Well, I was recently listening to Shawn Bolz, and he was talking about the prophetic and listening to the voice of God.
He briefly brought up the story of Adam and Eve and how they both listened to the snake. The snake led Adam and Eve to seek knowledge from another source rather than the ultimate source, GOD.
This is like some of us. What voice are we listening to lately? Are we listening to GOD, or are we listening to other sources? Are you listening to the source that draws you away from GOD or near Him?
These sources can come from not-godly sources: Astrology and tarot signs. Some sources can be good but not entirely true, and they may provide information stemming from personal experience.
Such examples are Christian books, which I also read personally, but if it does not draw me near to GOD or give me the wrong revelation of who GOD is nor lead me to sanctification, then that information is false and will not build my faith in Christ.
If we keep reading after verse 6 from Genesis, Eve saw the tree was good for food (lust of the flesh), it was delightful to look at (lust of the eyes), and the tree to be desired to make one wise and insightful (pride of life), so then she ate it (1 John 2:26).
She sought the fruit for her intention rather than obeying the will of GOD, which is observing His WORD. I do not think Eve had terrible choices when she ate the fruit. However, when we listen to our voice or others’ voices and not GOD’s voice, we are not walking in wisdom.
In proverbs 9:10, the WORD says the fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: Obeying God’s WORD is the beginning of wisdom.
“Fear of the LORD is the foundation of wisdom. Knowledge of the Holy One results in good judgment.” Proverbs 9:10 NLT
So if we are listening, and reading things that do not nourish our spiritual life, such as the WORD that feeds our spirit, then we are headed in the wrong direction.
And if you know you are headed in the wrong direction, if where you’re going does not feel right but wrong, ask the Holy Spirit. He will lead you into all the truth, the truth that leads to the Holy, Loving, Wise GOD and not man.
“But they delight in the law of the Lord, meditating on it day and night. They are like trees planted along the riverbank, bearing fruit each season. Their leaves never wither, and they prosper in all they do.” Psalms 1:2-3 NLT.
And we should always repent when we have gone in the wrong direction, and when we do, GOD is faithful and forgives us of our sins and cleanse us from unrighteousness.
So my question is this: Whose voice are you listening to? GOD, man, or things?
I hope this post blessed you.
