I was reading Luke 9: 37-45 the other day about Jesus casting a demon out of a young boy. What struck me was who Jesus was talking to.
When He said in verse 41, “You are an unbelieving people with no faith! You twist your lives with lies that have turned you away from doing the right things. How much longer should I remain here, offering you hope?” Then he said to the man, “Bring your son to me.”
So I’ve read this before; however, I’m reading it in a new light. I always thought that Jesus was talking to the disciples, but he was talking to the people, particularly the father who wanted his son to be freed from being possessed by a demon.
Jesus Christ rebuked the people because of their lack of faith. There is another story in the Bible in Mark 5, where Jesus resurrected a little girl. Do you know how Jesus resurrected the little girl? It was by faith. The faith came not only from Jesus (Jesus had enough faith and power to make it happen) but the parents and the disciples.
When Jesus came to wake the young girl, the people told her parents that she was dead. But Jesus said that she was only sleeping. The people that informed the parents of the news laughed and ridiculed Jesus, so what did he do? He threw them outside.
They lacked faith.
Only by faith can the impossible be made possible.
As Jesus said to the young boy’s father in verse 23 of Luke, “Jesus said to him, “What do you mean ‘if’? If you can believe, all things are possible to the believer.”
His disciples could cast out the demon, but the father did not have enough faith to agree with the disciples to believe that his son could be delivered.
That is why the Father said in verse 24, “…I do believe, Lord; help my little faith!”
When two or three are gathered together in His name, He is in the midst of them. The impossible then becomes possible.
Abba’s father, already full of faith, desires you and me to believe the unbelievable. But how can we do this when we are doubting and somewhat thinking? It’s either or not both.
We can’t be hot and cold. Choose to increase your faith or have no faith at all.
To believe in the impossible, you must agree with God that He can do the impossible in your life. Things that are exceedingly, abundantly, more than you can ask, think, or imagine.
Take your next level of faith with Him; He wants to do more for you.
